Rules of Development
  1. Keep in mind that this world may be published in one way or another. I encourage you not to integrate any concepts of a story or RPG world that you are creating and intend to publish independent of Aserra.
  2. Any ideas you use must be original, as if I publish this game, I would not like to get slapped with copyright infringement suit for a rip-off I didn't catch.
  3. Do not model any nations or cultures entirely after existing nations and cultures in the real world. You may use aspects of any existing cultures, though, and it would be best to mix things up too.
  4. There is a need to be reasonable with cultures, abilities, and the like that are created for Aserra. I don't want nations that are the epitome of perfection, or an entirely unreasonable set of abilities that causes them to be sensationally over powered compared to others of their race.
  5. I must give approval for anything major created by other players, so until I tell you that I'm ok with that, don't automatically assume that it'll be canon.

Asath stats are held against human standards. Their reptilian lower body can be a mixed bag when it counts statwise, as it is quite strong, and can be encumbering, but at the same time, making their movements more fluid.

Asath
((Pronounced: AY-sath. Grammatically, Asath can be used for all forms; singular, plural, and collective.))

The Asath are a race of snake-like people created by the Fire God Alaezo with the souls of the fire elemental, Salamander. Tall and sinuous, Asath are half-man and half-snake, and feared by many humans.
Locations and Abodes
Asath prefer warm habitats, many inhabit the tropical islands of the Tonult ocean, and the jungles, tropical grasslands, and deserts of Aserra. When the Forsaken Land was created, a clan of Asath were trapped on the continent and they have evolved to suit the cooler climate, but are corrupted by Craeseth. In jungles and grasslands, Asath live in villages of thatch homes, while those in the desert live in mud huts. Island Asath live cities are crafted from stone and shaped with fire.

Appearance and Garb

Asath have the torso of a humanoid body and from the waist down have a muscular serpentine tail that holds them upright. Standing upright, males reach an average of 6’5” (1.955m) and females 6’ (1.828m), with an extra tail length of about five feet (1.524m). They have become much more reptilian in appearance since their initial creation, their faces have angular features with reptilian eyes that have diamond shaped pupils, but they still have long, tapered ears. Though not venomous, they have developed fang-like canines. Hair color is black, red, white, or golden yellow and eye color is usually red or gold. Their skin is well-tanned, though those that live in the Forsaken Lands are pallid. Their coloration depends on their territory. Island Asath are usually red or orange-tailed, mainland jungle and grassland Asath have camouflaged tails that similar to native snakes and Forsaken Landers are black tailed and desert Asath are sandy colored with white hair.

With little skin to cover, Asath are not very modest. In some places, it’s perfectly common for males and females to slither about topless. Both genders adorn themselves with jewelry, though women wear considerably more; circlets, necklaces, bracelets, armbands, and tail bands are common. Asath are also very pierced; pierced navels, multiple ear piercings, noses, lips, eyebrows, and nipples are common, and sometimes these piercings are interconnected with chains from one stud to another. Asath warriors wear sleek, smooth, well-fitted armor of overlapping scales, appearing much like snake scales. Higher class Asath often wear silks over their torsos. Traveling Asath may don a tunic, or some other style of top, to respect the modesty of other races.

Lifespan and Reproduction
Asath live for up to five hundred years, appearing to be ageless for much of that time. They mature at the same rate as humans until the age of twenty-five, at which point apparent aging ceases, but they will begin to take on an ageless appearance after a time. Around four-hundred and fifty years of age, their apparent aging begins again until their eventual death.

Asath give live birth and go through pregnancy like other elemental races. They do not lay eggs, or retain eggs in their body until young hatch, like snakes. A female Asath is fertile for only one season every year and they usually give birth to only one child—multiple births are extremely rare, but have happened. Asath children are born after a nine month gestation. They are mostly helpless, and the bulk of their tails are barely longer than a human child’s legs. Not until their tail lengthens can they learn to stand and slither. Up until the age of two or three, Asath children can only half-crawl and half-slither. Around the age of 450, most Asath women begin their menopause and can no longer bear children. They cannot reproduce with other races.

Asath are polygamous and both males and females may have multiple spouses. Some marriages are arranged, while others are based on love. Usually a couple begins monogamous, but one partner may find a connection with another individual whom they wish to marry. Before anyone marries another, the other spouse must approve of the partner. Due to their open marriages, divorce is rare in Asath society and only occurs in cases where a spouse feels severely mistreated.

Diet, Agriculture, and Hunting
Asath are almost exclusively carnivores. They raise and slaughter their own food, or hunt. Usually, native wildlife and farm animals such as cattle, sheep, chickens, pigs are eaten. Be forewarned, Asath are not very discriminate in what they eat. Their menu includes beloved pets of most other races such as horses, dogs, and other adored animals. They sometimes will eat humans, but this is usually retaliation against human aggression, not a common diet staple. Asath will not eat dragon meat, nor the flesh of the elemental cousins. Besides meat, Asath also eat grains in the form of bread. They are fans of alcohol and ferment fruits and grains to create strong liquors.

Religion
Most Asath worship Alaezo almost exclusively, though some share appreciation for dragons (particularly red dragons). They honor Alaezo through following his tenants and teaching, honing their ability and communing with the elemental spirit within them.

Forsaken Land Asath worship Craeseth, the God of War and bastard son of Alaezo. Through him, they are allowed to use Fire Elementalism, but instead produce violet and blue-black flames. They have a different religious mindset that is more war-like, but much of their culture is similar to Alaezo worshiping Asath.

Magic and Abilities
Asath have the ability of Fire elementalism, which means they can create fire and use it in a variety of ways. From as simple as lighting a cook fire, to incinerating their enemies. Fire Elementalism is often used in crafting metals for jewelry, armor and weapons.

Physically, Asath have a graceful, smooth motion, leading itself to some fluid fighting styles. They commonly use elaborately crafted swords, staves and spears. For ranged weapons, they often use throwing daggers, bows, bolas, and javelins. The extra five feet of length of their tail, while usually used as a brace for balance, can be implemented as a weapon in their martial arts. However, their agility is greatly limited by the lack of legs. The can be quite fast though.

Asath have strong senses; their eyes can shift between normal spectral sight to heat-sensitive vision. Their spectral vision isn’t much better than a human’s, but their thermal vision is far better. They have not developed the “Jacobsen’s Organ” of snakes that allows snakes to smell by ‘tasting’ the air, but their sense of smell is strong with their predatory nature. Like most of their cousin races, their long ears allow for greater hearing.

Personality
Passionate, sultry, and fierce, they embody the strong emotions of fire. In their romances, they are very sexual and affectionate. In battle, they are as deadly as a raging wildfire.

Relations
The Asath are an independent, and even arrogant race, though they are rarely outright aggressive to other races except those that pose a threat to them.

Play-ability
Asath should be rare in the open world, and individuals outside of their homeland must have good reason.
