Here's where to discuss world information. Questions? Comments? Suggestions? Post them on this board. Many articles have a corresponding discussion thread, so if you want more information on a race or nation find the index stickied at the top of the board. Otherwise, feel free to post new topics for questions and such.

Rules of Development
  1. Keep in mind that this world may be published in one way or another. I encourage you not to integrate any concepts of a story or RPG world that you are creating and intend to publish independent of Aserra.
  2. Any ideas you use must be original, as if I publish this game, I would not like to get slapped with copyright infringement suit for a rip-off I didn't catch.
  3. Do not model any nations or cultures entirely after existing nations and cultures in the real world. You may use aspects of any existing cultures, though, and it would be best to mix things up too.
  4. There is a need to be reasonable with cultures, abilities, and the like that are created for Aserra. I don't want nations that are the epitome of perfection, or an entirely unreasonable set of abilities that causes them to be sensationally over powered compared to others of their race.
  5. I must give approval for anything major created by other players, so until I tell you that I'm ok with that, don't automatically assume that it'll be canon.

History of Adun

For now, I'll be doing a very skeletal history, mostly focusing on Kalesten, but it will be expanded on as time goes on.

Adun mythology tells us that Orran'sulani and Nydoini came to Adun and found it a lifeless sphere, and they were the ones who brought life to the world. After their seven children were born and grew to adulthood, the first seven races were created; the Zaedyn, Mariel, Asath, Brech'mar, Nafod, Idayn, and Danaij. Over the next thousand years, these races began to evolve and change, split into subraces, and spread throughout the world. In the meantime, the divine family began to grow...

Unlike many religions that we are familiar with, they did not tell the people that the universe was created by them. Consider the implications of this idea. Perhaps the people of Adun realize that there is a vast universe out there with other species on other worlds, and they know that they are just one world amongst many. Or maybe they realize that the universe is open, but they think that they are the only source of life, as they may think their gods are the only ones.

Humanity began to evolve on its own, though after their ape ancestors began to show potential as a sentient race, the gods took interest in them and began to mold them. The new young third generation gods took it upon themselves to guide humans on the path of evolution, and in time, some tribes of humans went from nomadic hunter-gatherer tribes to settling and learning to farm their own food.

It was not long after the beginning of human civilization that Ispa's war began swiftly. She slew her father and absorbed his soul, taking on his power, and in the confusion, her children led their followers to war. Craseth had created the Danaij'vai subrace of warriors; Yoma had created the vampire virus to turn humans, Danaij, and other races into blood-drinking, immortal, intelligent undead, and the rest of her children led humans and danaij soldiers into war on the continent of Ageond where the Danaij were settled. Soon, the armies of darkness conquered the entire continent, and began to drive into Thiskel.

In the heavens, the gods were thrown into chaos with the death of their father. In her grief, Nydoini felt she could not lead a war against her own daughter, and thus, she sacrificed herself to her son Idraen, allowing him to absorb her soul and gain her power. With Idraen possessing the greatest power, he took the throne and reunited his siblings to strike against Ispa.

In the realm of the mortals, all the races united against the armies of darkness and slaughtered them across the land of Thiskel. However, there was no freeing Ageond. The elemental gods united to destroy the continent to destroy the followers of darkness. Alaezo sorched the lands, Zelan fanned the flames, Brecha destroyed the earth, while Maris sank the land. Meanwhile, Idraen faced his twin sister in combat and emerged victorious. He had wounded her severely and began to absorb her soul, but she managed to escape, weak and wounded.

The effects of sinking Ageond destroyed around seventy percent of the continent, but the gods of darkness managed to salvage a small southern portion which would become commonly referred to as the "Forsaken Land" in the future. However, greater effects would be felt across the world. The temperature of the oceans rose, causing the world temperatures to rise and the polar ice to melt. However, with a new void in the ocean, water levels didn't rise much on the remaining continents, and in fact, many coastlines receded. The rapid warming of the world led to devastating natural disasters, and the tectonic plates of the world reacted to the disruption of the sunken continent. Though the gods did their best to control the damage, disasters were still unavoidable. Many thousands perished, mostly humans, but in time, the balance returned to the world.

As a note, the world's history is skeletal, and requires much more illumination. This also leaves it open to any number of human events such as wars, the rise and fall of empires, and various other events.

Creation of Aserra
The mythology of Aserra begins with the Father and Mother, Orran’sulani and his wife Nydoini. Orran’sulani is credited with the creation of the Universe, and with making Aserra the seat of his influence. Meanwhile, Nydoini was charged with seeding Aserra with life. From plants to animals, and the beginnings of humanity, the mother goddess nurtured it, and once Aserra was blossoming, she set to bearing Orran’sulani’s children.

Their seven children were each aligned with one of seven elements. Orran’sulani himself was of the element of Light, though Nydoini was associated with Earth or Life. Their first child, Zelan, became the God of Air; their second child, Maris, Goddess of Water; their third child, Brecha, Goddess of Earth; their fourth child, Alaezo, God of Fire; their fifth child, Entra, Goddess of Life; and their sixth and seventh children, the twins Idraen and Ispa, the God of Light and Goddess of Darkness, respectively. As their children matured, Nydoini gave them each the opportunity to create a race to their liking. The form of the race they were given was basically human, but resembled their father’s form with his long, tapered ears, and with the penchant to live for a thousand years. Their souls were to be spirits of the elements which the seven young gods ruled, granting their people mastery over the element.

Zelan took the form and graced the back with massive wings for flight. His people were given the souls of Sylph, the air elemental, and named Zaedyn. He placed them upon the mountains of the Ideil Range to give them room to soar.

Maris took the form and gave her people the tails of fish, with gills to breath under water. One year of their lives would be granted for them to live on land with the other peoples, so that all may be familiar with each other. They were incarnated with the souls of Undine, the water elemental, and named Mariel. She set them in the ocean, near the leypoint of the Tonult Ocean.

Brecha took her people and made them short and stout in resemblance to her own frame. They were given souls of the earth elemental, Gnome, and sent to live within the Ideil mountains where they would take to living in elaborate cities carved out of the stone, and tilling the earth of the valleys. They were named the Brech’mar in her honor.

Alaezo’s people were given the tails of snakes and the souls of Salamander, the fire elemental. Sent into the warmest region of Thiskel, the beginnings of the Great Desert, the race was named Asath.

Entra chose the Nymphs to be the souls of her race, the Nafod. In time, the Nafod would inherit the shape-shifting traits of their Nymph souls, which included not only Nymphs, but Nymph sub-races of Dryad and Nereid. Those with Nymph souls bound their shape-shifting to an animal species to mimic, becoming the Ochae’nafod. Meanwhile, those with Dryad souls bound themselves to tree species in the same way, becoming the Dra’nafod. The Nereids found themselves drawn back to the sea, and became both the children of Entra and her sister Maris, and gained the name Marfod. The Nafod were originally sent into the Eldir Forest, but quickly spread outwards, finding new species to bond to, while the Marfod slipped into the Riath Sea.

Idraen made no physical changes to the base body, keeping with the fairness of skin, hair, and eyes that he and his father shared. They were given the souls of Light elementals, and named the Idayn. They were placed in the Itray Forest of Thiskel.

Finally, there was Ispa. To spite her brother, she gave her people black skin. They were incarnated with the souls of Shades, dark elementals, and named the Danaij. Ispa set them into the continent of Ageond, away from where her other siblings had chosen to put their peoples.

War of the Gods
Ispa, the dark daughter, drew away from her family over time, isolating herself and her people. Meanwhile, her siblings had decided to pursue a new endeavor. Zelan felt that there should be gods charged with overseeing the seasons of Aserra, and to do this, he asked his sisters to bear him four daughters—with the exception of Ispa. Maris bore Fria, the Goddess of Winter, Entra bore Areria, Goddess of Spring, and Brecha bore twins, Glaeria and Oleiria, Goddesses of Summer and Autumn, respectively. Left childless and snubbed by Zelan, Ispa decided to start her own family. She seduced her brother Alaezo, and without his knowledge, conceived a son, Craeseth, who was cloistered away from her family so that he could be raised to become the God of War.

After his birth, she returned to her family only to steal the seeds of her brothers Zelan and Idraen in order to conceive two more children; Sai’ras, sired by Zelan, to become the Goddess of Chaos, and Yoma, sired by Idraen, to become the Goddess of Death. Ispa continued her family with help from her demon lords. Her daughter Suldra was sired by Airuxul, the Demon Lord of Lust, to become the Goddess of Lust. With Aitirava, the Demon Lord of Greed, Ispa bore Belas, the God of Corruption. By time her family learned of her growing brood, they were old enough to serve their purposes. Craeseth had taken the Danaij and created a stronger, fiercer sub-race called the Danaij’vai. Yoma had been charged with the duty of creating vampires, turning humans, Danaij, and any other race into powerful, intelligent, undead soldiers. With their ability to create more of their kind from their victims, they could turn the armies of the other races against themselves. Humans were twisted and manipulated by Belas into the Kuzo, a race that would be short-lived, reproduce quickly, and be a disposable and overwhelming force for Ispa’s armies.

When the other gods began to take notice of the stirrings on Ageond, Orran’sulani went to his daughter to reconcile, but instead Ispa turned on him. Catching her father off guard, she slew him, then absorbed his soul, inheriting his spiritual power. With greater spiritual strength, she declared war on her siblings, while the Danaij led armies of Danaij’vai, vampires, Kuzo, and humans into battle against the rest of Ageond, and onto Thiskel.

In the heavens, the Gods were in turmoil. Ispa led her children into Zephaer, the City of the Gods, intent to take the throne for herself, even if she had to consume her way through the rest of her family. Zelan, Maris, Brecha, and Alaezo met her and her children in combat, but Entra, and Nydoini could not bear to fight their beloved sister and daughter. Nydoini called Idraen to her side. Devastated by the death of Orran’sulani, and heart-broken by the betrayal of her own daughter, Nydoini commanded Idraen to absorb her soul and take the throne, to which the God of Light reluctantly agreed. Armed with new power to rival his sister’s, Idraen and his siblings were left to deal with a battle on two fronts; one, to protect their peoples, and the other, to protect their own lives.

On Thiskel, Idayn, Zaedyn, Brech’mar, Asath, and humans marched against the Danaij forces, trying to push them back and hold the line. In Zephaer, the siblings battled against their sister, nieces, nephews, and own children. Eventually Maris struck Ispa with such power that it scarred Aserra itself, creating a chasm through Thiskel and forced the land upwards into a new mountain range. While Ispa was incapacitated, Idraen went to finish her, but found himself unable to kill her. Craeseth, Sai’ras, Belas, and Suldra were detained, while Yoma had not participated in the actual conflict. The siblings couldn’t bear to kill their own flesh and blood either. Instead, Ispa and her children were banished to Malbolge, unable to leave their realm and influence the land of the living.

Yet, on land the Danaij were still gaining greater influence, bolstered by ever increasing forces on Ageond. The siblings decided that the only thing they could do was take out the bulk of the force—which was all of Ageond. Alaezo set the land ablaze while Zelan fanned the winds. Brecha and Maris worked in unison to sink the continent, managing to sink all of it but the very south. However, despite the remaining Danaij population, the damage done to Aserra was enough to halt the war. The world was thrown into cataclysm. The gods did their best to shield their peoples from damage, but the ensuing climate change and tectonic events took a vast toll on all the peoples of Aserra.

In time, however, the world righted itself. The peoples of the Elemental races began to seek out new lands across the world, expanding their influence and creating sub-races of their kind. Fayl’Idayn, Aeul’Idayn, Oir’Idayn, Ery’Idayn, Ur’Idayn, Kiar, and Iengi were born during this time. The Danaij still survived in the Forsaken Land, the remnant of Ageond, and after time, Ispa and her children were granted some leniency in providing for their peoples. In the meantime, the other six elemental gods realized they had to bolster their own side in case Ispa’s compliance was only momentary. This brought about the birth of many new gods and goddesses between the six elemental gods that would serve the people of Thiskel and Ageond.
