Here's where to discuss world information. Questions? Comments? Suggestions? Post them on this board. Rules of Development
  1. Keep in mind that this world may be published in one way or another. I encourage you not to integrate any concepts of a story or RPG world that you are creating and intend to publish independent of Aserra.
  2. Any ideas you use must be original, as if I publish this game, I would not like to get slapped with copyright infringement suit for a rip-off I didn't catch.
  3. Do not model any nations or cultures entirely after existing nations and cultures in the real world. You may use aspects of any existing cultures, though, and it would be best to mix things up too.
  4. There is a need to be reasonable with cultures, abilities, and the like that are created for Aserra. I don't want nations that are the epitome of perfection, or an entirely unreasonable set of abilities that causes them to be sensationally over powered compared to others of their race.
  5. I must give approval for anything major created by other players, so until I tell you that I'm ok with that, don't automatically assume that it'll be canon.

Thanks for the clarification. I think it would be terribly hard to quantify, but the example percentages give a good idea of what this can look like and where the lines are. I like the bit about how the elementalism plays in to it. It all makes a lot of sense.

It gives some good perspective on what damage Cael has done to his soul thus far too.

Exactly. I will try to work in some of the symptoms as we play on. I imagine him as having used maybe 25-30 percent of his soul already. Much of his casting has been small by comparison to the bigger spells described above, but he has also relied on it on more than a few occasions. Things for him should be starting to add up now!

Alright, time to establish a safe limit. Typically around 50% of your soul being burned away, your mind will attempt to preserve what little is left of the soul. When you've breached 30% your body shuts down (coma time), for an undetermined amount of time. Dipping to 20% (after awaking from a coma) will cause your soul to lose a lot of it's attachment to its body (luckily there are still preventative measures that can be done to insure no invading spirits). If you are able to survive to 0%, your soul's reincarnation ability is burned up and your soul will cease to be a cohesive force in your body. While, technically, you could live close to 0%, being at that dreaded 0 will cause your body to cease functioning.

Below is an example Idayn soul burner.
100% - perfectly normal
50%- body goes into conservation mode, tries to shut off soul burning ability. Elemental powers begin to wane.
30%- slips into coma. At this point contact with their elemental spirit is too damaged to continue. Any elementalist powers are lost.
20%- light elemental attempts to leave the body so that it's immortality isn't threatened. If stopped it cries out in pain to be rescued.
0%- annihilation of the soul, that specific light elemental ceases to exist.

For a particularly heroic soul, godly intervention may come about and remove the soul prior to it's fatal burn.
