Re: New Ideas for Nydoini
I am supportive of such an idea, assuming you view Aserra as another planet in the same universe as Earth. I hadn't really operated on that, but perhaps I should.

Re: New Ideas for Nydoini
My personal feeling on this sort of turn is that it should be hinted at but never proven or disproven as opposed to being "canon". One of my early favorite fantasy universes did this (The Sword of Shannara series by Terry Brooks), except the inference is that the fantasy universe in question is actu...

Re: Discussion for Soul Burning
Exactly. I will try to work in some of the symptoms as we play on. I imagine him as having used maybe 25-30 percent of his soul already. Much of his casting has been small by comparison to the bigger spells described above, but he has also relied on it on more than a few occasions. Things for him sh...

Re: Discussion for Soul Burning
Thanks for the clarification. I think it would be terribly hard to quantify, but the example percentages give a good idea of what this can look like and where the lines are. I like the bit about how the elementalism plays in to it. It all makes a lot of sense.

Re: Discussion for Soul Burning
As a follow up sort of question, then, I've been wondering. If you are really permanently burning away the soul, are there symptoms that go along with that after prolonged use of it? I also wonder then how much magic can be done this way before you burn out completely. Before, the assumption was tha...

Re: Discussion for Soul Burning
Really? When I was writing it in that direction, I merely meant it as Cael's perception, part of the stigma Idayn races would feel about it. I like it even better that it does damage the soul permanently.

Re: Discussion for Fae Magic
Did any decisions on the nature of these illusions ever come? Or is that why this conversation got bumped? It might be interesting to let fae magic carry both of these two views. Let one sit as glamers and the other more as lures. Right now, I think of glamers as shaping of light for all. So, invisi...

Ability: Dragon-Bound (Rough)
Ability: Dragon-Bound Very rarely, a dragon can choose to permanently bond itself with a mortal being. A Dragon-Bound individual is commonly made to be the negotiator between a dragon and local populations of mortals or as messengers abroad. As a Dragon-Bound, a character can find themselves benefit...

Homunculi (Rough)
Homunculi In the simplest of terms, a homunculus is an artificial being capable of operating and sustaining itself. It is a being created outside of any natural birth. They are incredibly rare and very difficult to make. Due to this, there is no unified homunculi culture or even standard form of cre...

Re: Magic: Fae
To me, it doesn't sound very different between the two when you put this example out. You don't get much more of anything, be it directed or otherwise. The only thing that really changes is whether multiple people perceive it or not. The rest is just their imagination. I guess my question becomes th...

Re: Magic: Fae
Well, I think expecting fae illusion magic to be able to go toe to toe with elementalism is a bit unfair because, in practical things like combat, illusion magic probably isn't your best choice. That's why they are different schools of magic. They do different things. Illusion is about deception and...

Re: Magic: Fae
Well, in EKD illusions were not able to affect any senses besides vision. The only other sense Jess has given was sound. I think the problem is that it fundamentally changes how we conceive of illusion if someone can channel senses into others. It sounds more like telepathy than illusion. And you ge...

Re: Guns?
If anyone has learned anything about me and my preferences around fantasy worlds, its that "classic" is not a word I would want to describe my rpg as. I am constantly looking for originality in a genre that I often don't feel much hope for. Guns won't sate that desire, but it certainly opens up new ...

Re: Magic: Shamanism
I follow the shapeshifting abilities quite well. 1) For regular calling of spirits, are the effects to be similar to the EKD summoning? It works differently, I see, but this doesn't necessarily discuss the end result or the range of possibility. We have the elemental spirits, so I'd imagine calling ...

Re: Sorcery
The piece that I was missing in all of this was that mana is power that only gods are supposed to be using. The description of mana above doesn't really put out that its the source of power for gods only. It reads to me more like a source of energy that is naturally present for anyone to employ, jus...

Re: Guns?
Well, of course guns are very effective, but the thing to point out is that I don't think anyone expects these guns to work like a 9mm. Old guns are single shot and have the accuracy of a cannon in their own size (that is to say, not much at all). If you have one gun, be it rifle or pistol, you have...

Re: Sorcery
I dunno. I very much disagree that your choice in magic system denotes the type of person you are. I can easily see sorcery being used for better things than attaining god-status or war. A magic system with limitless choices means that each person is capable of using it differently. Its THEIR choice...

Discussion for Shamanism
Some thoughts on shamanism: I'm not sure how you were picturing it, but I was hoping to distance us a bit from ROLW shamanism a bit and shape up the concept that you are throwing yourself on the mercy of a being who could be ignoring you and doing their own thing. I read a series called the Obsidian...

Discussion for Elemental Magic
Question: While this magic is their natural given right, is it possible for others to learn some of these practices, even rudimentarily so? For example, shamanism was a strictly elven (centaur/grassrunner too) practice, but we still had a provision for a human who managed to become attuned to the sp...

Re: Sorcery
As you know, I was also crafting out my ideals for the system. And you landed fairly close with sorcery. Some suggested additions that you can edit, use, or not use: The Philosophy of Sorcery: As a technique-driven art, sorcery is very arguably a high form of magic in that its workings are more nuan...

Re: Guns?
I think I agree with Jess on this one. It makes more sense to me to see this in the hands of humans. They tend to be the ones seeking to make many the upper hand for themselves and artificial methods are generally the hallmark of humanity. I think guns should be a rare occurence, but a definitely pl...
